Ja Rule Addresses Wild Ashanti And Jennifer Lopez Rumors In This Viral Video

Publish date: 2024-06-01

Ja Rule has been surrounded by some strange rumors lately, with claims that one of his songs might have featured a vocal sample from Ashanti, either by accident or entirely on purpose.

The song, in question, was “I’m Real (Remix)” with Jennifer Lopez, and the rumors claim that the vocals accidentally got mixed up with the main vocal track of Lopez herself.

And after some time of hearing that speculation quite often, Ja Rule has decided to address the rumors and has spoken out about what is going on.

The rapper was prompted by a guest caller during a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, who asked him about the rumors surrounding his song and the possible inclusion of Ashanti on it.

The rapper was quick to try to deny the rumors, but he created more confusion. After the host of the show asked him for a clarification, Ja Rule explained that Ashanti had initially sung the reference for J. Lo.

Some of the vocals were left underneath, but even Ja Rule was not sure how the final mix turned out, and whether there was any truth to that at all.

Ja Rule did admit the possibility that this had happened. Still, he added that even in that case, the vocals of Ashanti would be underneath the main vocal track, and should therefore not even be recognizable, to begin with.

The hip-hop star stated: “To clear this story up. So I wrote ‘I’m Real’ for Jennifer Lopez. And I sang the original version of it as a reference, but I sound terrible, of course. … Ashanti then sang the reference for Jennifer Lopez.”

He continued: “When they mixed down the record, Irv [Gotti] left some of the vocals underneath. … She has some vocals underneath, I believe. And that is the rumor. I don’t even know if it’s really true!”

Some have speculated that this might not be the exact case, however. In a past interview, Ashanti confirmed the rumor by saying: “I demoed the record for her. … And they kept my hook and, you know, they kept some of the backgrounds and ad-libs and stuff like that. And it was funny, and it was bittersweet because I was really excited ’cause it was J.Lo. But I was so mad at Irv. I was like, ‘You know I wanted that record!’… I was so mad, but I was happy at the same time because it was J.Lo.”
